Hengel is a dumpling of Caucasian origin, prepared either filled or plain. In Turkey it is made in Ağrı as well as Artvin, Ardahan, Kars, Erzurum and the Eastern Black Sea. From Dagestan onward it is known under similar names in almost every corner of the Caucasus, and some areas add a potato filling.
