Asîde is a kind of halva made with starch, its roots reaching into Arab cuisine. The Turkish word asude is said to descend from the same name. Kitab al-Tabikh, the tenth-century cookbook written by Ibn Sayyar al-Warraq, holds one of the earliest documented recipes for the dish.
