Editor's Note
The Column of Constantine, also called the Burnt Column, is a monumental column commemorating the dedication of Constantinople by the Roman emperor Constantine the Great on 11 May 330 AD. Completed around 328 AD, it is the oldest surviving Constantinian monument in Istanbul. It stood at the centre of the Forum of Constantine, on the second-highest of the city's seven hills, midway along the Mese, the main thoroughfare.
