Editor's Note
This is a group of structures whose construction, including a tram depot, an administration building, a five-storey tower, and a watchman's hut, was begun in 1911 by Ürgüplü Hayri Bey. Its architect was Ali Talat Bey. Used as a gas-electric plant until 1927, the complex was transformed, with the opening of the Üsküdar tram lines in 1928, into a depot and a power centre that also generated electricity for the trams. While the tram depot building has not survived, a cultural centre and public education centre were built in its place. The electric plant building, meanwhile, served as the Transport Museum between 2008 and 2011.
