Editor's Note
The masjid stands at the junction of Alaca Minare Street and Kartal Baba Avenue, on the right corner of the street. Opposite it are the mosque and burial ground of the Hacı Dede Nakşibendî Lodge. The masjid was built by Murad Reis, one of the naval captains of Süleyman the Magnificent's era. The Hadîkatü'l-Cevâmi notes: "Its founder was a captain named Hoca Murad, but his grave and date of death are unknown. When in the course of time its minaret fell into ruin, Saliha Sultan, the mother of Sultan Mahmud I, rebuilt and restored it anew."
