Editor's Note
The Tubinis came to Istanbul in the 1850s from the island of Syros in the Aegean Sea and settled in Kadıköy. Bankers by main profession, they also engaged in other businesses. The area from the post office building in Kadıköy all the way to Moda is said to have belonged to this family. Of Italian origin and French nationality, they had a villa built at the corner of Mühürdar Avenue and Misbah Muayyeş Street some time after arriving in Kadıköy. They then built the Tubini Church, named after themselves and intended for Catholics, on the Misbah Muayyeş Street side of this villa.
