Editor's Note
The tomb lies in the old Haydarpaşa promenade grounds, just behind the present-day Haydarpaşa train station, among the railway lines. Although this open-air tomb is popularly known as the Haydar Baba Tomb, the person buried there is a man named Abdullah. The tomb took its mistaken name from the 'Hadaik-i Sultaniye' (Imperial Gardens) that Haydar Pasha (d. 1595) had built during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent (1520-1566) and which later came to bear his name. In the middle of this imperial garden stood a mosque built by Mehmet Efendi, known as the Haydar Pasha Mosque after the man who created the garden. The tomb stood right beside this mosque.
