Editor's Note
It stands on Toptaşı Avenue, at the point where this avenue meets Sarı Mehmet Street. The building is used today as Sokollu Primary School. In the schoolyard stands a fountain for watering animals, also remembered as Acı Çeşme, built in 1271 (1854-55) by Topçu Kaymakamı Emin Bey. To the right of the school is a double bath built by Mimar Sinan in 991 (1583) together with the Nurbanu Valide Sultan Mosque complex; directly opposite are the upper-floor Aşçıbaşı Mansion with vaulted shops beneath it and the Tavukhane Hearth, whose chimney was demolished not long ago.
