Editor's Note
This is a breakwater built in 1889 during the construction of Haydarpaşa Harbor. At its center stands a column dedicated to Abdülhamid II, made by the Italian architect Vallaury. The seaward face of the column bears a coat of arms, and the landward face a tughra (imperial monogram).
