Editor's Note

The waterside mansion on Barış Manço Avenue is in the neo-classical style and built in the wooden lath-and-plaster technique. While the first building dated to the 18th century, the present building dates to the late 19th century, the reign of Abdülhamid II. At the northern tip of Mihrabat Bay in Kanlıca Cove, the structure consists of two buildings, a harem and a selamlık, and was known as the Vecihi Pasha Mansion; the selamlık section later passed to his daughter Necibe Hanım, then to Princess Rukiye, daughter of Abbas Halim Pasha, and after remaining for a time in the Khedive family, passed from her to Princess İffet Hanım.
