İmalat-ı Harbiye

Known in short as İmalat-ı Harbiye, this defense-industry directorate was established in 1909 under the Ministry of War during the reign of Sultan Mehmed V. It brought together the defense-industry bodies that had earlier operated under the names Tophane Müşirliği and Tophane Nazırlığı. The institution played an active role in the First World War and later in the Turkish War of Independence, continuing its work until the General Directorate of Military Factories was founded in 1921.
