Story
The MSGSÜ Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture is located in the building of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University at Fındıklı, in the artistic heart of Beyoğlu, and since 1883 it has safeguarded the journey of Turkish art toward modernization. The elegant exterior of its neo-classical architecture deepens within, through artworks that range from the final years of the Ottoman Empire to the bold experiments of the Republic. The inner-world depth of Osman Hamdi Bey, the Anatolian light of İbrahim Çallı, the modern lines of Feyhaman, and the stylistic adventures of many other artists come together in this museum. A notable feature of the museum is its effort to recreate the genuine atmosphere of artists' studios within its exhibitions, thereby presenting the works in the context of their creation. A visiting tip: for those who want to escape Beyoğlu's crowds and meet with art, a weekday afternoon is the ideal time; afterwards you can relax in the quiet cafés of Fındıklı.
