The structure seen on the plan prepared by Demangel and Mamboury is one of four cisterns located on the terrace area to the left of the road leading to the Old Gülhane Hospital. Consisting of a single space with one aisle covered by a barrel vault, the structure was also used in the Ottoman period and underwent many changes. During the period when it was used as a military arsenal, it was plastered with cement. It is also thought that the structure was originally built as the substructure of a building and later converted into a cistern.
