Editor's Note
The Gül Baba Tomb stands on Gül Baba Street in the Tomtom neighbourhood, between Tophane and Galatasaray. It is thought that a dervish lodge once stood beside it. Gül Baba, said to have been instrumental in the founding of the Galatasaray Lodge under Sultan Bayezid II (1481-1512), gave his name to this lodge, but its foundation and the changes it underwent over time cannot be determined. However, in the 1546 (953 AH) Istanbul Foundations Register, in the summary of the 1476 (881 AH) endowment deed of the Hoca Teberrük Mosque in Vefa, this lodge is mentioned as the 'Zâviye outside Galata known as the lodge of Gül Baba.'
