The Darüşşafaka Gymnasium was built in 1912 as a historic gymnasium belonging to the Darüşşafaka Educational Institutions. The building bears the traces of the First National Architecture movement. The foundations of the Darüşşafaka building were laid in 1868, and over the years the building was expanded many times and enriched with additional structures. The gymnasium built in 1912 was one of these structures. After the Darüşşafaka Educational Institutions moved to Maslak in 1994, the building remained idle for many years.
