Editor's Note
Construction date: 974 AH / 1566–1567 CE. This fountain, located on Ragıp Bey Street in the Et Meydanı (Sofular) area of Aksaray, was built of cut stone in the classical style. It is understood to have been built in memory of Süleyman the Magnificent after his death. On the ruined mirror stone there are two niches meant for placing drinking cups. These cups were occasionally replaced by the local people or by benefactors. When a new one was put in place, the old one was not thrown away but taken home for the sake of healing. Water was also drunk here for the sake of healing. Today, sadly, the basin of this fountain has been shattered and its spout torn off.
