Editor's Note
On top of the cistern, studied by Auguste Choisy and Forchheimer-Strzygowski, stands the Ahmediye Mosque, built in 1902. Because it lay in the Etmeydanı, where the Janissary Barracks once stood in the Ottoman period, Choisy referred to it as the Etmeydanı Cistern. The body walls of the structure are plastered up to the springing of the arches with waterproof cistern render, and it can be entered through a cover-topped opening in the courtyard of the Ahmediye Mosque. 1
