In the early 1900s, it was established on an area of 7,000 to 8,000 dönüms between the villages of Maltepe and Başıbüyük, where the hospital buildings on Başıbüyük Hill stand. Süreyya İlmen Pasha purchased the Narlı farm from Education Minister Zühtü Pasha, and later had a weir and pond built on the farm grounds for irrigation. When Süreyya İlmen Pasha failed to get the yield he expected from the farm, he turned the area into a forest of pine and olive trees.
