Hoping to have a church of their own, Feriköy's small community laid the foundation of the Srpotz Vartanants Church in 1859, but were unable to complete its construction. Thanks to the board of the Pera Church, the half-finished building was completed in 1861 and opened for worship. The land for the church had been donated in 1858 by a Syriac named Fethullah. The church was rebuilt from its foundations in 1903 with donations from Zenop Bey Merametciyan. The Merametciyan school was built in masonry in 1912 on the adjacent plot. In 1929, work began to rebuild the church in masonry.
