Editor's Note
Burials began in 1859 on a plot donated in 1857. A small section was set aside for the Armenian Protestant community. The consuls general come from Germany, England, and the USA; the task of administering the cemetery rests with the Netherlands, Sweden, Hungary, and Switzerland. They rotate the administrative duty every two years. Three generations of masters of the Meyer watch brand—Johann Meyer, Emil Meyer, and Wolfgang Meyer—the Swiss art historian Ernest Mamboury, and the British diplomat and journalist William Churchill are buried here. From the late 1850s onward, the graves of Protestant Hungarians were gathered here.
