Editor's Note
Hacı Ahmet Mosque was built on the Rumeli side of the Bosphorus, between Karakol Sokağı and Hacı Ahmet Karakuzu Sokağı in the Kasımpaşa Hacı Ahmet neighbourhood. Its patron was Hacı Ahmet, the chief mat-maker of Süleyman the Magnificent. The complex is thought to have been built around 1548. A fountain and a school were built together with the mosque, but none of these survive today. In 1955 the mosque was rebuilt by local residents and its minaret renewed. The structure bears no resemblance to the original building. Covering a total plot of one thousand square metres, the mosque is built of reinforced concrete.
