Editor's Note

It is located on Aziz Street in Hasköy. The Mayor Synagogue was founded by the community that migrated from Spain's Mallorca Islands during the Sephardic migrations. It is stated that Mayor was a synagogue that already existed in Hasköy during the Byzantine period. A document in the state archives states that 'Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror granted permission to a merchant named Abraham to repair this synagogue, which existed before the conquest.' Surrounded by a row of shops on the seaward side, the synagogue is not visible from Hasköy Avenue and lies behind its garden walls.
