Editor's Note
The Hürrem Çavuş Mosque stands in the Hırka-i Şerif quarter of Istanbul's Fatih district. Commissioned by Hürrem Çavuş, it was built by the architect Mimar Sinan in 1560. It was repaired in 1844 and 1901, with its most recent restoration in 2000. The two-storey mosque has stone-and-brick walls and a wooden ceiling, with a cemetery (hazire) on its eastern side.
