Editor's Note
The church is assumed to have existed before the 19th century. According to official records, it was first repaired in 1839, later restored under the subsequent Patriarch Hagopos Seropyan, and reopened for worship in 1858. Because the aging wooden church had become hazardous, a new building permit was obtained in 1891 and the church was rebuilt with the support of the district fund and the philanthropy of the Kayseri-born banker Parseğ İstanbulluyan. Its opening took place in 1892, during the time of Patriarch Horen Aşıkyan.
