Editor's Note
Mehmed Efendi, one of the dervish warriors who distinguished themselves by joining the conquering army of Fatih Sultan Mehmed, came and settled on this then-vacant land and founded his lodge here. Operating as a Bektashi lodge affiliated with the Janissary corps, it was closed in 1826 when the Janissary corps was abolished during the reign of Sultan Mahmud II. The lodge was later allotted to the Naqshbandis with the permission of Sultan Abdulhamid II, and remained open until the closure of lodges and dervish convents in 1925.
