Editor's Note
It was built in 1776. During the time of Patriarch Stepanos II Agavni, it was rebuilt through the philanthropy of Canig Amira and opened for worship in 1834. Four years later, the roof tiles and ceiling damaged by an earthquake were renewed. After remaining neglected for a long time, the church underwent a thorough restoration and reopened in 1946. It was repaired again in 1962, 1970 and 1982. It is the only church in Istanbul whose Holy Altar is made of mother-of-pearl.
