Editor's Note
The waterside mansion on Halide Edip Adıvar Avenue was the selamlık (men's quarters) of the Yağcı Hacı Şefik Bey Mansion to its north. Purchased for Cemile Sultan, sister of Sultan Abdülhamid II, it is the surviving part of the mansion that burned in 1871, and it preserves its original form. Its sea wall was destroyed when a Bosphorus ferry struck it, and a boathouse lies beneath the building. The shore mansion was registered under protection No. 58 in 1971 by the Council for Immovable Antiquities and Monuments.
