Editor's Note
Saray Mosque, in the Hamidiye neighbourhood of Ünye facing Cumhuriyet Square, is known as the oldest surviving mosque in the town. Rectangular in plan and built of Ünye stone, its inscription records that it was commissioned in 1719/1720 by Gondoroğlu Hacı Ahmed, thought to have been a sea captain. It took its present name after the nearby Süleyman Paşa Palace was built in 1808 and palace members began worshipping here; the building was restored by the Ministry of Culture in 2006-2007.
