The exact construction date of the Helvacı Dede Şıh Mosque is unknown; however, its plan and architectural features resemble those of early-period mosques. The building has a square plan and was built of rubble stone. According to tradition, the mosque is associated with the guidance activities of Şeyh Hemmet Hü'l Ülvan, a kindred spirit who came to Kayseri at the invitation of Turesan-ı Veli, known as the conqueror of Cappadocia in the 13th century. In the famous legend told about Şeyh Hulvan, the mother of Tur Hasan Bey, while he was on the Hajj, wished for warm halva, and the delivery of this halva all the way to Mecca is recounted as a miraculous event.
