The Gendarmerie School, originally named the Aramyan Girls' School, was built in the 1860s. In the 1860s, Kayseri Armenians who had settled in Istanbul founded the Aramyan Society in order to open a girls' school in Kayseri. The society began operating on 11 December 1860. A seven-member board was formed to increase membership in both Istanbul and Kayseri and to draw up the society's charter. In a short time, 1,500 liras were raised, making the school's construction possible. The Manugyan brothers made the most important contribution to building the school.
