The mosque in the Buyuk Kayas district was commissioned by Seyyid Omer b. Mehmed according to an endowment document dated 11 October 1842. "Since there was no mosque in the vicinity of the noble mosque built by the benefactor es-Seyyid Omer bin Mehmed in the village of Kayas, attached to the Bala subdistrict of the city of Ankara, where the Friday and feast-day prayers could be performed, and the local people suffered hardship in the winter days, the aforementioned mosque was deemed fit to become a congregational mosque, and a new pulpit..."
