On the Repair Inscription Above the Kır Castle Gate. In 813 the Bulgar Khan Krum launched an invasion of Thrace, burning and destroying the cities he captured (Akkaya, 2011). Two years after these attacks, in 815, a peace treaty was signed between the Bulgar Khanate and the Byzantine Empire. A repair inscription bearing the names of Michael III and his sister Thekla, dating to the regency of Theodora between 842 and 854, has been observed.
