On the Inscription Above the Middle Castle Gate. The inscription was translated into Turkish by Prof. Dr. Tayfun Akkaya and, as seen and recorded in his book by Dr. John Covel during his visit to Silivri, reads as follows. Transcription: ΚΕ ΒΟΙΘΗ ΤΟ ✝ CΩ ΔΟΥΛΩ CΕΡΓΙΩ ΒΑCΙΛΙ ✝ CΠΑΘΑΡ(…) ΑΜΝ. With certain additions it can be rendered as: Κ(ύρι)ε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ Σεργίῳ Βασιλικῷ Σπαθαρίῳ. Ἀμ(ή)ν. (+ Kyrie voithie to so doulo Sergio Basiliko Spathario. Amen.) Turkish translation: "O Lord, help your servant Sergios, the Imperial Sword-bearer (Spatharios). Amen." Kyrie is the word invoking God, fitting an address like "my saint" or "my lord" in Turkish.
