Editor's Note
The roofed, four-sided fountain at the southwest corner of the Ulu Mosque was built by Sultan Abdülhamid II in 1905. Made with beautiful Kütahya tiles, the fountain was removed in 1960 and its tiles were handed over to the Bursa Museum. However, in 1994 it was rebuilt in the same spot, faithful to its original, by the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality. In this second construction, the inscription stated that it had been built by Governor Ahmed Münir Pasha. On the east facade, the spout panel is entirely of marble; it has no basin, and in place of the inscription there is a wooden hatch for entering the fountain's interior.
