Ani Tigran Honents Kilisesi

Editor's Note

Built in 1215 by Tigran Honents, a wealthy merchant of Ani, the church stands on a terrace-shaped piece of land rising at the point where the Mığmığ stream joins the Arpaçay River, northeast of the Ani ruins. The gavit (narthex) on the west was added in 1251, and the chapel north of the gavit in the second half of the 13th century. This church is especially notable for the frescoes in its interior. On the interior walls and dome of the church are frescoes depicting events from the birth to the death of Jesus Christ and scenes from the life of St. Gregory the Illuminator (Surp Grigor Lusavoriç).
