Editor's Note
Built in 1035 by the Marzban Apelgharip Pahlavuni to safeguard a fragment of the Holy Cross purchased from the Byzantine Emperor Michael, the church was dedicated to Jesus Christ. A gavit (narthex) was added on its south side in 1193 and a bell tower in 1227; in 1342 Prince Vahram Zakarid had its dome repaired by the architect Vasil. The church has a nineteen-sided exterior and an octoconch interior with eight apses.
