It is located within the boundaries of the village of Karakurt in the Sarıkamış district of Kars province. It was built in the 19th century in the Baltic architectural style, with a basilical plan made of finely cut tuff stone. Its interior was decorated with oil-paint murals. It was registered as a Cultural Property Requiring Protection by decision no. 1361 of the Kars Regional Council for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage, dated 29 March 2003. Surveyed and documented for restitution, the church was submerged in 2020 after the Karakurt Dam began to hold water.
