It is located within the boundaries of the Sarıkamış district of Kars province. Originally a cemetery where soldiers who died in Sarıkamış and their families were buried, it was turned into a military memorial after the remains of Turkish soldiers martyred following the Sarıkamış Campaign were transferred here. On 30 August 1968 the 9th Division erected a monument at the center of the site.
