It lies about 5-5.5 km southwest of Karapınar Village (Karahasan), some 42 km south of the Sarıkamış district of Kars province. Yoğunhasan, perhaps one of the best-studied and most important centres in the region, forms a complex of a fortress, a rock tomb, settlement areas, and a pond. Situated about 1.5 km south of the Aras River, the centre also controls the historic roads along which the modern highway now runs. The importance of this road is underscored once again by the many centres lined along it that we have discussed above.
