It lies 5 km from the Zara district, parallel to the Zara-Divriği road, at the entrance of Tekke village, in the neighbourhood that bears its name. The full name of Sheikh Merzuban, who is buried in the tomb, is Mahmud b. Ali el-Hüseynî el-Bağdadî. A descendant of the Prophet, he was among the holy men who came from the Khorasan region. The Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad met with the sheikh while on one of his eastern campaigns and endowed to him the lands now known as the tekke. Although the exact date of the tomb's construction is unknown, the fact that Sheikh Merzuban is known to have died in 1306, together with the tomb's architectural style, points to the structure dating from the 14th century.
