Editor's Note
Because of the soda-rich water coming from springs on the slopes of the Abuçimen stream, it was called 'Acıhamam' (Bitter Bath); because it stood lower than the Hamam-ı Bâlâ and Hamam-ı Ulyâ it was called 'Hamam-ı Süflâ' (Lower Bath); and because it was repaired by the Kayaoğlu family after falling into ruin it was called the 'Kayaoğlu Bath.' It was restored by the General Directorate of Foundations in 2007. Also popularly known as the 'Genoese Bath,' the building is a work surviving from the Mengücekid period.
