Editor's Note
Abdurrahman Gazi set out on campaign to Eastern Anatolia during the time of Caliph Omar, with the Islamic army under the command of Iyaz bin Ganem. He was martyred during the capture of Ahlat and was buried where he fell. Although the exact place of his burial is not known, because the spot where the tomb stands today is referred to in Ottoman-era records as the Hill of Martyrs or the Lodge of Martyrs, it is thought that he was buried somewhere near the site of the tomb. The matter is also mentioned on page 109 of the second volume of the famous historian Waqidi's work Futuh al-Sham.
