Editor's Note
The Xerxes I inscription at Van is a trilingual cuneiform inscription of the Achaemenid King Xerxes I (r. 486-465 BC), written in Elamite, Akkadian and Old Persian. It is located on the southern slope of a mountain adjacent to the Van Fortress, on a smoothed section of rock about 20 metres above the ground. The niche was originally carved out under Xerxes' father, King Darius, who left the surface blank.
