Editor's Note
Üstünler Mansion was built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Not yet present in Ernest Chantre's photograph of 1881, the structure does appear in the frames Gertrude Bell took in 1911. This evidence shows that the mansion's construction was completed after the 19th century. The documents also reveal that the Rabad Gate to the north was closed off during the social unrest of 1925. In terms of architectural plan, the mansion stands out as one of the largest houses in Silvan, with its multi-unit layout developing around a courtyard.
