Editor's Note
The caravanserai in the Battalgazi district of Malatya was built in 1637 by Mustafa Pasha of Bosnia, sword-bearer of Murad IV. It was constructed on a rectangular area measuring 68 x 76 meters, with an open courtyard and a covered hall. Evliya Çelebi says of the caravanserai: The most splendid of caravanserais is the Han of Silahtar Mustafa Pasha, favorite of Sultan Murad Han, a peerless han with 170 cells, an iron gate, and an arcade of domes. On its gate the final line of the chronogram reads, "This new han became a peerless resting place."
