This is an example of a vernacular dwelling in the village of Ovacik in Nigde province, built in the 19th or early 20th century. Until the Turkish-Greek population exchange, Ovacik village was a Greek Orthodox settlement. Until 1925 the village was called Semendire/Semendere. From the beginning of the Common Era until the year 1000 it appears in records as Dasmenda/Dasmendron. At the end of the 9th century it was the seat of a bishopric under the name Dasmendon.
