Editor's Note
The Mor Efrem Monastery is one of the important examples of Syriac architecture in the region, with its architectural features and historical layers. Although there is no definite document of its construction date, taking into account its plan features and its similarity to examples of the same period, it is thought to date from the 6th century. Its structural resemblance to the Mor Evgin, Deyrul Umur and Deyrulzafaran monasteries supports this dating. There are three inscriptions in all on the monastery walls: two on the southern facade and one on the western facade.
