Editor's Note
It dates to the late 17th century. The mosque was commissioned by Damat Süleyman Pasha, a Georgian-born member of the imperial guard musketeers and governor-general of Raqqa. Existing records state that Süleyman Pasha died in 1688-89. As a result of additions and enlargements made over time, the building's original form has been altered. In the present plan, the rectangular courtyard is surrounded on all four sides by porticoes. The courtyard is entered through one door each on the north and east. The prayer hall consists of two aisles parallel to the mihrab. There is also a dome in the central area of the prayer hall.
