Editor's Note
The mosque was built with an earthen roof over stone walls. A single reinforced-concrete dome was later placed on top. Its original minaret was knocked down to its base by French artillery fire. This minaret was not preserved and completed as it was. In the mid-20th century, a new minaret was built in the courtyard of the structure. However, this minaret too collapsed in the February 6 earthquake. It was damaged in the February 6, 2023 earthquake.
