Editor's Note
Located on the high rocks along the riverbank near the point where the Karasu River joins the Euphrates, this relief dates to the Late Hittite period. It was noticed in 1956 by two geologists named Krummenacher and Wilson who were conducting research in the region. In the relief, set within a niche on a smoothed rock surface, a male figure with a bow on his shoulder and a spear in his outstretched right hand is depicted standing on a long, fork-antlered deer, probably representing the Hittite protective god.
